Conflict is something that we are mostly uncomfortable and unprepared to deal with. Conflict when left to its own devices has the capacity to significantly undermine the proprietary equity of an organization; people, process, products, and profits. Conflict is also an inevitable and normal, even healthy part of our business and personal lives. In fact there is such a thing as healthy conflict! Imagine a room filled with people from all different levels of an organization, passionately disagreeing with each other without making it or taking it personally and allowing not just the safe ideas to come out but the also the great ideas.
Conflict is often seen as negative, punitive and painful; something to avoid not embrace. And the statistics clearly reveal our predisposition for avoidance. A survey of 1400 organizations revealed 8 out of 10 leaders having a fear of conflict and 9 out of 10 employees have experienced a conflict in their workplace that negatively escalated. It would be safe to say "Our system is perfectly designed to achieve the results we are getting."
Conflict Coaching is a relationship where your coach will work with you in developing a Conflict Management System. Each of us has a Conflict Management System and every organization has one as well. How well we know of it and how it works for us or against us is revealed in the assessment phase of our Conflict Management System. From the assessment we then explore the many options available in a healthy Conflict Management System and determine those most appropriate for the individual or the organization. Once we have the right strategy, tools and desired outcome in place we develop an implementation and monitoring plan.
